Kennett board approves student-led Crochet Club to meet monthly

Two Kennett High School students asked the board to approve a Crochet Club that would meet roughly once a month to teach crocheting, make items for community needs and raise funds for charitable uses. "We would probably meet once a month on Fridays," one presenter said, describing projects such as baby hats, blankets and ornaments for fundraising.
Board members praised the presentation and suggested community fundraising opportunities, including local silent auctions, to showcase student work. Trustees asked the students to return in about 12 months with an update on participation and programs. The board approved the recommended motion to add the Crochet Club as an extracurricular activity under board policy 122.
The club presenters said they plan to use proceeds to help the community and to create a collaborative “granny-square” blanket as a year-end project. Trustees encouraged outreach to broaden membership and highlighted the educational and social benefits of student-led extracurriculars.
The approval includes the board’s request for a progress report next year and the district’s standard oversight of student activity accounts and faculty advisers.
