Woburn council approves transfers, appointments and routine measures; several hearings continued to March 19

At its Feb. 20 meeting, the Woburn City Council approved a package of mostly routine administrative and committee items, including a transfer of $69,709 from the Traffic Safety and Infrastructure Fund to the Salem Bow pedestrian safety account and the adoption of an ordinance amendment regarding special-event permit insurance requirements.
The council adopted a committee recommendation to advertise and recruit for the vacant deputy superintendent of public works position and referred the matter to the personnel committee. The council also approved the appointment of John M. Cashall as planning director/Woburn Redevelopment Authority administrator and confirmed several other board appointments and reappointments, including Jan H. Fuller to the Commission on Disability and multiple appointees to the Council on Aging.
Several pending public hearings were continued to the council’s March 19 meeting: a grant-of-location request by Eversource for a new joint pole on Commerce Way, a special-permit petition by Hannaford & Dumas for a two-story addition at 24-26 Con Street, and petitions by Citizens Bank and others that require additional engineering or staff review.
The council also granted leave to withdraw without prejudice on a proposed rezoning of city land on Plympton Street. The meeting adjourned after the council completed its agenda.
