Commission aims to plant 40 trees this year, schedules Conservation Day planning meeting

At the March 7 meeting commissioners described an expanded tree-planting plan that would use available revenue funds (approximately $3,000) to increase the number of trees the commission expects to plant from about 25 to 40 — a roughly 60% increase.
A commissioner outlined planned species (red maple, Thundercloud, Rising Sun, Autumn Brilliance and flowering dogwood), said the trees will be 10-gallon containers and noted logistics are being developed, including volunteer staffing for planting day (volunteers requested to be at 8 a.m.). The commission acknowledged the larger quantity will require additional planning and contingency plans.
Staff also reminded members that a Conservation Day planning meeting will be held one week from the meeting date at 5:30 p.m. in the engineering conference room and that all members were welcome to attend.
