Tree program to hand out 40 trees April 27 as sales exceed 50%

The Woburn City Conservation Commission announced the city’s annual tree program will hand out 40 trees on Saturday, April 27, at City Hall, with pickup scheduled 9–10:30 a.m. Commissioners said the program—previously budgeted for about 20–25 trees—benefited from additional funding this year.

Commissioner Speaker 7 said the increased funding from partners allowed the program to expand to 40 trees and asked staff to consider additional notification. "We were able to do via budget, was 20 to 25 a year ... we are now up to 40 trees this year," Speaker 7 said.

Staff (Speaker 9, identified in the meeting as Theresa for internal reference) reported sales have passed the 50 percent mark and that the flowering dogwood is sold out. "So sales are going well. We have sold out of the flowering dogwood," Speaker 9 said. Pickup logistics include commission volunteers arriving at 8 a.m. to unload and sort the delivery so the public can pick up trees between 9 and 10:30 a.m.

Commissioners encouraged continued social media outreach and word‑of‑mouth to help remaining sales. The commission asked staff to monitor orders and provide updates to members as sales progress.

The tree program is a recurring community initiative intended to support neighborhood tree canopy and engage residents in planting; commissioners noted the program’s limited inventory and urged interested residents to order promptly.
