Senate advances several noncontroversial bills; committee notices and adjournment

The Nebraska Senate advanced several bills on the general file with recorded tallies during the Jan. 30 floor session.
- LB 108 (Cities of First Class Firefighters Retirement Act oversight correction) advanced to Enrollment & Review initial (35 ayes, no nays); the sponsor said it corrects an oversight in 2024’s LB 686 and reinstates prior contribution rates affecting Bellevue firefighters.
- LB 21 (Uniform Unlawful Restrictions in Land Records Act) would permit a simple amendment to older land records that preserves historical covenants while making clear such racially restrictive language is illegal; it advanced unanimously from committee and the floor (36 ayes, no nays).
- LB 187 (Nebraska Real Estate License Act updates) requires written buyer agency agreements, increases prelicense education hours, clarifies an exception for vacant-lot option sales, and limits out-of-state licensee activity to referral fees; it advanced to E & R initial (36 ayes, no nays).
- LB 197 (Employment Security Law changes at the Department of Labor’s request) would broaden who can make determinations on initial unemployment claims and permit automated determinations where facts are undisputed; the bill advanced to E & R initial (39 ayes, no nays).
The clerk also announced committee hearings and filings and the body voted to adjourn until Monday, Feb. 3, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.
