Commission approves temporary no-parking and curb repainting near Green/Nashua intersection

Summary
After residents described landscaping trucks and party parking that block visibility, the commission voted to erect a no-parking sign 20 feet from Nashua on Green Street and to refresh yellow curb paint as an interim fix while MassDOT studies larger intersection changes.
Karen Hunt of Green Street told the Traffic Commission that parked landscaping trucks and event parking routinely block visibility approaching the Green/Nashua intersection and create hazards for motorists and pedestrians.
"There's absolutely no way of getting through," Hunt said, describing landscaping vehicles and party parking that reduce sightlines. City officials noted that MassDOT is conducting a comprehensive study of the larger intersection and that state-led changes (including elevation changes and signalization) are under consideration but may take significant time.
The commission approved an amended motion to erect a no-parking sign on Green Street 20 feet from Nashua and to refresh the yellow curb paint to make the restriction clear. Commissioners said the short-term measures are intended to reduce immediate crash risk while the state study proceeds.
The action does not alter MassDOT’s larger planning process; it is an interim, local enforcement and signage change.
