Committee approves appointment of Angela M. Taft to Woburn Disability Commission

Chairman Campbell and members of the committee voted to approve the appointment of Angela M. Taft to the Woburn City Commission on Disability.

Mr. Mayer presented Taft to the committee, saying she is a Woburn resident who “is a registered nurse at Mass General” and previously worked at the VA hospital. Mayer told members Taft has attended commission meetings and has personal experience with mobility challenges after a springtime injury that put her on crutches, which he said prompted her interest in serving.

Taft told the committee she grew up in Woburn and works as a nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital. She said that recovering from a torn ACL this year gave her insight into what people with disabilities face and motivated her to volunteer to help “keep the city more accessible for everyone.”

Council members who spoke in support noted Taft’s nursing background and community ties. An unidentified councilor asked specifically about playground accessibility; Taft said the commission is involved in an inclusive‑playground project at Burillo and expressed enthusiasm for expanding those efforts.

A motion to pass the appointment was made, seconded and approved; the chair announced that “the ayes have it.” The committee moved on after congratulating Taft and thanking her for her willingness to serve.

Taft’s appointment will be reflected in the commission roster and the commission’s work on accessibility projects is expected to continue with her participation.
