East Penn board approves routine minutes, personnel and business items; contracts pass with one abstention

At its Oct. 14 meeting, the Eastern School District Board of School Directors approved routine business items by roll call and heard reports from administration and a board member.
The board approved the minutes from its Sept. 23 meeting by roll call (recorded as nine ayes). Personnel items were approved by roll call ("9 ayes"). The board approved grouped business operations items (a, b, d and e) together ("9 ayes"). On contracts and agreements (item c), the motion carried with eight ayes and one abstention (Dr. Whitney recorded an abstain). The board also approved curriculum conference requests by roll call ("9 ayes").
During the meeting the chair thanked Lehigh Valley Health Network for a $5,000 donation to support scholarships. Mr. Smith reported to the board on the Lehigh Career & Technical Institute (LCTI) Joint Operating Committee meeting: body cameras for school police were approved at LCTI and dual‑credit participation figures were reported — "52 students taking a total of 91 dual credit courses this year" from East Penn — and the district’s average daily membership from East Penn has risen from 242 in 2020–21 to a reported high of 332 last year.
The board announced it had met in executive session before the public meeting on personnel topics and scheduled its next regular meeting for Oct. 28 at 7:30 p.m. A motion to adjourn passed by voice vote.
