East Penn SD to move to online returning-student form; highlights summer feeding, staff openings and retirements

The East Penn School District board heard a district update June 24 that included a forthcoming switch to an online returning-student form for the 2024–25 school year and reminders about summer supports and staffing needs.
Dr. Campbell said the district will “be using that student form and it will replace their traditional … paper yellow emergency contact information,” adding that the district will send reminders throughout the summer and that the form will be available to both new and returning families. The update noted the change is intended to keep contact and emergency information current for planning classroom assignments and course selection.
Dr. Campbell also encouraged families to view a recording of graduation on the district YouTube channel, congratulated Emmaus High School student Kyra Murphy on receiving a national 2024 Scholastic Award, and highlighted human-resources postings for certificated and support positions at East Penn, including flexible openings such as crossing-guard roles.
The district reiterated summer services: a supplemental feeding program operating weekly distributions for families in need. Dr. Campbell said distributions are held on Wednesdays at the administration building (10:30 a.m.–noon) and at Lower Mackenzie Middle School (11:30 a.m.–1 p.m.), and that the district partners with the Emmaus Rotary to provide nonperishable groceries at these pick-ups.
Dr. Campbell closed by recognizing staff retirements: Mrs. Guthrie, retiring after 22 years as an instructional assistant at West Coastville; Mrs. Meredith, retiring after seven years as a special-education teacher at Emmaus High School; and Sal Sava, a Willow Lane crossing guard retiring after two years. The district invited interested applicants to apply via the Human Resources page on the district website.
The board also received an update from Doctor Whitney on the Carbon Lehigh Intermediate Unit. Whitney said the CLIU board approved a three-year collective-bargaining agreement with the Carbon Lehigh Education Association and reviewed the 2021–24 comprehensive plan, which emphasizes staff development, retention and improved communication. Whitney reported the CLIU Transportation Department serves about 1,000 students, drives approximately 2,400,000 miles per year, operates as a PennDOT inspection station and has certified 465 CDL drivers since becoming a testing site in 2018. “2,400,000 miles is a lot,” Whitney observed.
The district scheduled its next regular board meeting for July 8, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.
