East Penn board approves minutes, personnel, business operations and appoints member to LCTI JOC

At its regular meeting the East Penn School District board approved several routine agenda items, accepted retirements, and confirmed an appointment to the LCTI Joint Operating Committee.

The board voted to approve the Dec. 11, 2023 minutes after a motion and second and a roll-call vote returned nine ayes. The personnel item was approved and the superintendent announced acceptance of three retirements: Michelle Yasinovsky (staff assistant, about 13 years of service), Danny Fox (guidance counselor, 34 years in public education with 17 in East Penn), and Brian Harkness (chemistry teacher, 31 years in education and 16 in the district).

The board bundled business operations items A through D for a single vote. During discussion a board member identified a line in the general fund that showed roughly $1.2 million paid to charter schools for the month and asked whether that was typical. Administration said some months were higher because of make-up payments after a vacancy in the business office and explained that charter payments are paid monthly and reconciled at the end of the year based on days of attendance. "We were we fell behind in our payments due to a vacancy in the business office," an administration representative said; the board asked staff to compile multi-year charter-enrollment and payment data for follow-up.

The board also approved curriculum requests for educational conferences by roll call (9 ayes).

In separate action, the board nominated and unanimously approved Mr. Jankowski to serve as the districts fourth member of the LCTI Joint Operating Committee.

With no further business the board announced an executive session earlier in the evening about confidential matters and personnel, noted district closures and the date of the next regular meeting, and adjourned.
