North Allegheny outlines capital projects: HVACs, track resurfacing, bus purchases and safety upgrades

Mr. Shibola, the district facilities presenter, reviewed a multi‑year list of completed capital projects and proposed work for the coming year during the Nov. 13 work session.
Completed items Mr. Shibola highlighted included elementary roof repainting, standardized PA systems, parking and paving improvements at multiple elementary campuses, masonry repairs, installation of 14 fire door magnets to comply with fire safety practices, new synthetic turf scoreboard, tennis court resurfacing, additions to football locker rooms and stadium signage lighting, and the recent acquisition of 10 new buses (confirmed by Mr. Morgan).
For 2024–25, facilities proposals include HVAC modifications in Bradford Woods Elementary office spaces to improve zoned control; sidewalk replacement at Carson Middle School; phase 2 of an energy management control rollout and replacement of several HVAC units; fencing and bike‑shed safety work at Peebles Elementary; boiler control upgrades and waterproofing at middle schools; weight room equipment updates at North Allegheny Intermediate and Senior High; track recoating and re‑striping at the high school; pool locker room flooring and refrigeration air intake improvements; and replacement of an obsolete fire alarm head‑end panel.
Mr. Shibola introduced Tyler Majerie as the district’s new ground supervisor in the audience, calling him "a great addition." Board members asked clarifying questions about mower purchases, storage and long‑term fleet plans; Mr. Shibola confirmed two Jacobson mowers were already purchased and that several smaller mowers would be replaced as part of ongoing fleet maintenance. He also said a leak‑detection pilot (Meshify) with roughly 18 sensors is deployed in selected mechanical rooms and coolers.
Funding notes: Mr. Hauser had earlier summarized that the 2019 bond fund has approximately $5 million cash with about $3 million encumbered and that, when bond funds are spent down, the district will need to identify additional funding sources for large future projects. Mr. Shibola said some projects are still being scored for budget and timing and will be integrated into the long‑term facilities plan.
Next steps: Conceptual budgets and renovation options will be worked up and a set of renovation proposals is expected to be presented to the board in January.
