Board to consider javelin runway, sprinkler bid and Newman Stadium resurfacing next week

"The Javelin runway is something we've put off for several years," McClure said, noting the project provides a dedicated, all-weather surface and improves safety for athletes who currently practice on grass. He described the Newman Stadium 'D' zones as worn asphalt that becomes slippery and said resurfacing will use a track-like, grippy surface to reduce slips and falls.
Mr. Kirk said the plan is to complete these projects over the summer. A public commenter later asked which projects might be deferred to fund the javelin runway; no detailed list of deferred projects appeared in the transcript.
The board will consider these three items for action at its April 24 meeting; cost figures and contractor names were not specified in the presentation and will be provided in next week's board documents.
