Student representative Mackenzie Magusiak told the board that Hazleton Area School District students created artwork for a local American Cancer telethon and that those pieces are now on display at area cancer treatment centers.
Magusiak said participating schools included West Hazleton Elementary Middle School, Hazleton Elementary Middle School, Heights Terrace Elementary Middle School, Maple Manor Elementary Middle School and the HAHS Fine Arts Club. The student reported that visual‑arts students under Rebecca Ward created a painted mural outside the library and that senior student Eleni Johnson designed the cover for the year’s card.
Magusiak also described Veterans Day activities — students handcrafted 175 patriotic keychains and assembled goodie bags — and said members of National Honor Society and student council worked with state police to deliver Christmas gifts to more than 340 students.
The student representative closed by thanking teachers and coordinators and wishing the board a happy holiday season.
