TACIR staff to update fiscal-federalism web pages with county'level data through 2022

TACIR staff presented a planned revision of the commission's fiscal federalism webpages to include updated county'level revenue data and federal obligations through federal fiscal year 2022 and to reorganize data to make cross'county comparisons easier.
Carly Van Sickle said the updated pages will draw on two primary sources: the Tennessee Office of the Comptroller's county audit database (covering 91 of 95 counties) and USAspending.gov for federal obligations. The revisions will add subcategories, sample county comparisons and explanatory footnotes telling users how to interpret obligations (for example, distinguishing federal obligations performed in a county from funds received by a county government).
Van Sickle said current web pages use 2015 data (last updated in 2017) and that the reworked pages will be easier to update and to navigate; staff invited feedback on the new format. No formal action was taken; staff will complete the web update and present materials as they are finalized.
