La Grange residents urge board to consider allowing backyard chickens

Several residents asked the La Grange Board of Trustees to place a proposal on a future agenda that would allow backyard chickens in residential lots.
Todd Van Cleave told the board he and dozens of property owners support permitting chickens as pets for their educational value: “When La Grange residents are allowed to own chickens as pets, give them names, tend to them, collect their eggs, and learn from them, I believe we will all be better off for it.” He urged the board to stop “wasting time” and add the issue to the official agenda for public discussion. Tim Trumpeter echoed the request and said historical building fabric in the village includes former coops and potting sheds that predate modern zoning.
No trustee moved to add the item at the meeting. The request was recorded as public comment and will remain available for trustees to consider for future agendas.
