Board approves consent agenda and a slate of policy updates; several items unanimous

At the meeting the board approved the consent agenda and a series of policy actions. A board member requested a correction to a prior special-election vote record that listed both Jeff Barnum and Amanda Caruso as voting both "yay" and "nay"; the motion to approve the consent agenda was made and seconded and proceeded with an abstention from the member who had been absent for that earlier vote.

The board then approved a group of replacement policies (board development, student rights and responsibilities, educational philosophy/mission and related procedural updates) by motion and recorded unanimous approval. The board approved major revisions to the alternative education policy (IHBH) and passed a complete rewrite of JLDBG (reintegration of students from juvenile correctional facilities). The board also approved second readings of several new policies, including a service-animals policy and forms for FOIA training completion and reporting child abuse procedures; those motions were recorded as unanimous.

Motions were moved by board members during the consent and policy sections (Speaker 17 moved the consent agenda at SEG 1563; panel speakers championed the replacements and revisions in the policy blocks), seconded as noted in the record, and votes were taken with results recorded in the meeting notes as unanimous in the policy votes and with an abstention recorded for the consent agenda correction request.
