North Scott presents ICAP and career pathways plan; district highlights internships with EICC

District staff presented the Individual Career and Academic Plan (ICAP) and district career‑connected learning efforts, describing how counselors, teachers and regional partners expose students to career pathways from junior high through high school.
Presenters said the ICAP follows a sequential model: early interest inventories, sophomore career exploration and more embedded career experiences for juniors and seniors. The district described hands‑on events such as a Junior Achievement career expo and partnerships that let students earn EICC credit while in high school; staff said roughly half of students take at least one EICC class and that some graduates leave with an associate degree.
Patricia Madden, the district’s career and college transition coordinator, was recognized for coordinating EICC partnerships and senior signing events. Board members discussed expanding pre‑apprenticeship opportunities and increasing earlier advising so more students can complete college or credential pathways by graduation.
Officials also discussed program constraints: registered apprenticeships are heavily regulated and limited in places by employer demand, while pre‑apprenticeship programs may be more flexible. District staff said they will continue to track internship/apprenticeship trends and report them to the board.
