Parent urges Perkiomen Valley to restore family consumer science and middle‑school activities

During public comment at the Perkiomen Valley School District board meeting, Kristen Herb of Skippack Township urged the district to restore family and consumer science courses at the high school that she said were removed around 2018. Herb said the courses (child development, food and nutrition, manufacturing and textiles) helped students explore career options and noted neighboring districts still offer similar classes.
Herb also asked the district to consider reinstating a middle‑school cheer program and adding a theater program to provide sustained participation opportunities from middle school through high school. She said these programs benefit students’ career exploration and extracurricular engagement.
The board thanked her for the comments and noted the suggestions will be part of ongoing curriculum and extracurricular discussions.
