Option 1 and Option 2 differ primarily in how in‑service and half days are distributed. Administration proposed moving one in‑service day to create longer weekends and recommended including the celebration of Eid al‑Fitr. The central operational question for several board members was whether to build three formal inclement‑weather days into the calendar — which would shift the last student day to June 16 and the last teacher day to June 17 — or to rely on existing flexible instructional day options.
Board members disagreed about religious and federal holiday observance (Columbus Day versus Indigenous Peoples’ observance and other cultural holidays), conference scheduling and whether shifting holiday weeks would improve instructional continuity. Administration agreed to produce a revised calendar (version 3) that incorporates the board's preferences and returns for final action.
