Perkiomen Valley School District administrators proposed creating nine new cafeteria/recess monitor positions — three each at Evergreen, Skipback and Schwenksville elementary schools — to allow teachers scheduled time for Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings.
Administrators said the positions were piloted at South Elementary and that the pilot succeeded at freeing teacher time for grade-level collaboration. Finance staff and administrators told the board the new roles typically are non-benefit, hourly positions and will carry a budget implication; one presenter said the district would likely use unassigned fund balance or incorporate the positions into the coming year’s budget but that final accounting will be provided with backup.
Several board members asked how the hiring would be conducted, whether the positions would be posted and interviewed school-by-school or in a combined process, and how quickly the district could fill the roles. Administration said principals would coordinate interviews and that candidates frequently come from the parent community. Because the public backup did not include full projected cost numbers, the board agreed to hold the item from consent and requested administration provide detailed projected costs and a funding source at next week’s meeting.
