District weighs stadium improvements: $100,000 football shed estimate, barrier gates, lighting and paving options

Mr. Fabrizio said the proposed football shed footprint and location are set and the district registered the project with KPN; sealed township plans are required and the structure must be built on-site. "Estimated costs around 100,000 right now for this structure," Mr. Fabrizio said.
Speaker 2 reminded the committee that boosters have about $55,000 in student-raised funds that administration confirmed could be used, but procurement rules require any work performed on district property over $25,000 to follow district bid rules or be procured via KPN, so donated-built work is not permissible without following procurement.
Committee members discussed whether to consolidate or enlarge existing band and hospitality sheds near the stadium; members noted recent roof repairs, rodent and lighting issues in the older sheds, and that a new larger building could improve storage but should be coordinated so it does not appear as an isolated eyesore.
On access control, staff proposed manually operated barrier gates for Wortman Stadium, High School Drive and Campus Drive to help direct traffic during large events. Mr. Fabrizio estimated about $10,000 per installed system and advised the committee that a motorized/automated retrofit could cost around $50,000 per gate and require power and communications infrastructure; staff recommended manual gates while they investigate options.
For lighting and paving, operations are evaluating retrofitting/ replacing pole heads with LED fixtures, installing floodlights along the 29 side of the student lot, renting portable light towers as a temporary measure (roughly $300 per unit per month), and scheduling paving where needed. Committee members pressed staff to coordinate permits with the township and to present a timeline so work can occur before the next activity season.
Next steps: staff will prepare a scope, pricing and procurement plan for the football shed and barrier gates, present a lighting and paving timeline and consider temporary light-tower rentals for the near term.
