The Perkiomen Valley School District’s finance committee presented a proposed agreement with Bus Patrol to install cameras on the stop‑arm of district school buses to capture motorists who pass when buses are stopped.
Finance Committee chair Mister Weaver described how the system would operate: “The stop sign that comes out on the yellow bus essentially will have a camera attached to it. So if somebody goes around the bus when the stop sign is deployed, it will generate a process for a ticket,” he said. The ticketing process would be handled by Bus Patrol corporate headquarters and revenue from fines would be shared in part with the district to cover installation and equipment costs, though Weaver said safety—not revenue—is the project’s primary purpose.
Weaver told the board the Safety & Operations Committee recommends moving the contract forward. No formal contract approval vote was recorded in the public portion of this meeting; the item was presented to the full board for consideration and additional detail was provided in accompanying slides and materials referenced by administration.
Board members did not record a roll‑call vote on the contract at this meeting; subsequent procurement steps and contract approvals will follow district purchasing policies before any cameras are installed.
