Committee sends Active Transportation Advisory Committee to full council with favorable recommendation

The committee voted May 20 to refer to the full City Council, with a favorable recommendation, an order to codify an Active Transportation Advisory Committee.
Eric Molinari, the citys transportation planner, said the committee is intended to provide a forum for residents who "navigate the city outside of an automobile" to raise concerns and advise staff. He told the committee he had already collected a preliminary sign-up list of about 14 interested residents.
Administration staff explained the committee would be unpaid, subject to open-meeting rules and initially staffed by the transportation department. They recommended up to 11 members serving one-year terms to allow turnover and broader participation. Councilors asked whether the committee would duplicate or complement private transportation-management associations; staff said it would serve residents directly and could coordinate with existing TMAs as appropriate.
The committee approved the recommendation by voice vote and referred the order to the City Council.
