Councilor Robert Van Campen introduced the order to accept the additional award from the state recycling program. Administration representative Mr. Demas told the committee the grant comes from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection through the Sustainable Materials Recovery Program’s Recycling Dividends grant and is typically used to replace recycling bins and other equipment for residents.
"So it's a grant from the state, from DEP," Mr. Demas said, describing eligible uses and noting that Everett had previously accepted an original contract worth $9,000 in October. Councilors moved and seconded favorable action, and the motion carried with all recorded members voting in favor.
The amendment increases the city’s available funding under the existing recycling award; no additional conditions or attachments to the grant were discussed. The committee did not specify implementation details beyond the standard use to replace equipment.
The committee proceeded to the next item after the vote.
