Committee sends $203,286 in Chapter 70 school contract funds to full Council

Chris Schweitzer, the school district’s budget director, explained that new Chapter 70 revenue raises the district’s net school spending requirement and the district adjusted its budget to accommodate the higher state allocation. Schweitzer and Superintendent Bill Hart said the funds will be used across the district to support requests for contracted security staffing (Allied Universal) outside regular school hours and to add cameras in school buildings to staff events such as parent‑teacher conferences and evening concerts.
“Every single municipality in the Commonwealth, they receive additional chapter 70 funds,” Schweitzer said, explaining why the district’s net school spending increased and required an appropriation to the contracted services account.
The committee moved to refer the item favorably to the full Council; the motion passed unanimously.
