Sprague said districtwide outcomes improved from the prior year and that "in 2024, 82% of our 3rd through 8th graders met or exceeded the ELA standards," with math at about 78% overall and science at 73% for tested grades. The presentation included grade-by-grade cohort data, subgroup breakdowns by race/ethnicity and English-language acquisition status, and comparative charts with similar districts.
Trustees pressed staff on a distinct drop observed between 5th- and 6th-grade math proficiency. Sprague and other staff noted that middle‑school transition, differences in program routines, and variability across feeder elementary sites can affect results, and they proposed deeper analysis of scale scores and articulation work between 5th and 6th grade. Sprague suggested continued curriculum alignment and further data review, including comparisons with I-Ready diagnostic results and a midyear LCAP update.
Board members and the superintendent praised teachers and students for the gains while urging staff to return with more disaggregated analysis and possible programmatic responses for groups below district averages.
