Banning Unified trustees sworn in; Shelley Ruiz elected board president

Superintendent Davis administered the oath of office to re‑elected trustees Myra Anguiano, Lucy Martinez Lara and Laura Trautman at the Dec. 19 organizational meeting of the Banning Unified School District Board of Trustees. The board then moved to officer elections for the 2025 calendar year.
Trustee Myra Anguiano nominated Shelley Ruiz for board president; the nomination received a second from Trustee Lucy Martinez Lara and passed unanimously. The board similarly elected Myra Anguiano as clerk after a motion and second. Trustee Martinez Lara was chosen as the district's voting representative to the County Committee on School District Organization elections.
The board adopted its regular 2025 meeting schedule after a minor change to move a May meeting; staff confirmed facility availability for the substituted date. The organizational session adjourned at 5:43 p.m. and the regular board meeting began at 5:44 p.m.
All officer elections and calendar approvals were approved by voice votes recorded as passing 5‑0.
