Public commenters and the employee union president framed the resignations as part of a larger retention problem that has affected special-education staffing in recent years. The union representative said the district has struggled to recruit and retain SPED teachers and aides and urged trustees to consider retention measures. One commenter noted that several SPED staff left earlier in the year and that those departures have left vacancies with immediate operational implications for students with IEPs.
The personnel summary was moved, seconded and approved by the board during the meeting.
The union urged the board and superintendent to look into the causes of turnover and to prioritize supports for special-education staff and the students they serve.
