Student rep sworn in; board hears Push Project presentation and approves small community donations

At the start of the Sept. 10 meeting, Angel Pineda was sworn in as the board ppointed student representative and delivered a short report highlighting CHS back-to-school night and upcoming events, including a parent meeting scheduled for Sept. 11.
The board also heard from Peter, the director of the Push Project, who described the nonprofit rts- and skills-based after-school program. Peter said the program over-enrolls relative to the contracted slots (28 students signed up vs. a 14-student contract model) and that programming is offered at no cost to participants. He outlined components including visual arts, social-emotional learning, financial literacy and skateboarding/surfing activities, and noted efforts to introduce the program to 5th graders.
Trustees approved two donations during the meeting: $2,637 from the Carpinteria Education Foundation to buy student planners for Carpinteria High School and a $300 donation from the California Women in Agriculture to an expanded-learning after-school program. Public commenters supported restoring planners at middle schools and praised community donors.
The board thanked the donors and moved the consent motions to approve the grants and donations.
Votes and actions: motions to approve the CEF donation and the California Women in Agriculture donation were moved, seconded and approved by the board.
