SALT LAKE CITY — On Jan. 27 the Utah House approved several floor items in quick succession.
HB50 (Occupational Safety Health amendments): Representative Dunnigan moved to uncircle HB50 and explained the bill raises maximum penalties the Utah Labor Commission (UOSH) can assess to align with federal OSHA ranges while leaving enforcement to the commission. The House recorded 73 yes, 0 no; the bill will be transmitted to the Senate.
HB55 (County Office amendments): Representative Dunnigan moved to uncircle HB55, describing a permissive change that allows a county to maintain offices outside its county seat. The House recorded 72 yes, 0 no; the bill will be transmitted to the Senate.
Both HB50 and HB55 were treated as noncontroversial on the floor and drew brief explanations before unanimous or near-unanimous voice votes and clerk-recorded tallies.
Also on the same day the House passed the 1st substitute to HB267 (Public Sector Labor Union bill) after extended debate; that measure passed 42–32 and will move to the Senate.
