Commission approves petroleum storage license for proposed gas station at 410 Beecham St.

The Chelsea Licensing Commission voted to grant a petroleum storage license to 410 Chelsea LLC on Dec. 12 for a proposed fuel station at 410 Beecham Street.
Carolyn Parker, a fire-suppression consultant representing the applicant, told the commission the site formerly housed a gas station; tanks had been removed years ago and the new owner intends to reinstall underground tanks and reopen fueling operations. Parker said the proposal includes approximately 24,000 gallons of gasoline, 20,000 gallons of diesel and 4,000 gallons of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF). She said the fire department had approved the fire-suppression plans and, if licensed, the team planned to install tanks within two weeks.
Commissioners asked about timing, building permits and hours; Parker said underground work typically comes before canopy and building construction and that state approval by the Division of Safety is required after the local license is issued. After questions from the commission, a motion to approve the petroleum storage license carried by voice vote.
The applicant will proceed with state filings and local permitting as required.
