Los Alamitos honors Pop Warner team, legacy business and outgoing mayor at council meeting

The Los Alamitos City Council opened its Dec. 16 meeting with several community recognitions. Coaches and players from the Los Alamitos Pop Warner 12U red team received certificates of recognition for a season that coach Aaron Sasego described as an unexpectedly successful first-year effort: “We got a great group of kids,” he said, praising the players’ determination and the volunteer coaches and families.
The council also presented a legacy-business award to Sir Speedy, honoring 25 or more years of continuous service; representatives of the McClain family accepted the recognition and thanked the council for the honor. Marla Stevenson, vice president of the Los Alamitos Board of Education, presented a commendation on behalf of the school district and praised the city–district partnership around campus safety and community engagement.
Representatives from Congresswoman Michelle Steel’s office and the Joint Forces Training Base offered certificates of appreciation to outgoing Mayor Nafolda. Lieutenant Colonel Dan Fox and the visiting offices highlighted the city’s ongoing partnership with the base and presented Mayor Nafolda with a statement of appreciation as he completed his term as mayor.
These presentations were followed by public comment, routine updates and the council’s business items. The council closed the meeting with member reports and adjourned until January.
