CJP tells commission its new center has awarded $1.7M in grants and is evaluating interventions to combat antisemitism

Combined Jewish Philanthropies' associate vice president Melissa Garlick told the commission that CJP created a Center for Combating Antisemitism (CCA) to coordinate local prevention work, reduce gaps and redundancies among providers, and fund scalable interventions.
Garlick said CCA provided $1,700,000 in strategic grants in its first year to support work in K'12 schools, college campuses and civic spaces, and that CJP has distributed emergency funds for students' safety and emotional support. CJP is conducting an evaluation of its interventions and expects some survey research on Jewish employees to be available in the fall and a complete evaluation by June.
Garlick emphasized cross-community bridge building and workplace training as priorities and said CJP will share training curricula and partner organizations with the commission on request. She also noted the limits of relying solely on communal security funding and argued for long-term, outcome-driven investments.
Commissioners asked about timelines for reports, training materials and the challenges CJP faced engaging campus leadership. Garlick said training materials and lists of partner organizations are available and that evaluation work is ongoing.
Garlick framed CJP's work as complementary to state action, and she offered to share CJP's evaluation findings and program curricula with commission staff as they become available.
