Coalinga-Huron Board Seats New Trustees, Elects Chavez as President in 3-2 Vote

Trustees for the Coalinga-Huron Unified School District formally took their oaths of office and the board reorganized its leadership at the Dec. 16 board meeting. Acting Superintendent Adela Jones administered the oath to newly seated trustees, including Spencer Davidson, and presented brief introductions of the incoming members.
The board honored Lisa Culberson with a plaque and remarks recognizing nearly three decades of service to the district. Acting Superintendent Adela Jones said Culberson ‘‘tirelessly championed literacy’’ and thanked her for leadership across the Coalinga and Huron communities.
The meeting then moved to board organization. Trustees nominated Trustee Chavez and Trustee Roger Campbell for board president. After a roll-call vote, Trustee Chavez was elected president on a 3-2 vote and assumed the gavel. The board also elected Trustee Diaz as vice president and Trustee Crawford as clerk in subsequent votes and made several committee appointments, including a representative and alternate to the Fresno County School District Organization Board.
Votes taken at the meeting were procedural and recorded by roll call. The board approved the meeting agenda and later approved a packet of consent items (with one consent item pulled for discussion). The reorganization followed the board’s standard nomination and roll-call procedures.
The board concluded the open portion of its reorganization items by moving on to updates, public comment and other business before adjourning to closed session.
