Summary

The Baker County Tourist Development Council approved $4,000 to fund advertising for the county's annual rodeo, while members raised questions about whether required EMS coverage at events can be paid from TDC funds.
An unidentified rodeo representative told the council the rodeo will be Oct. 18'19 with performances at 8 p.m. and that "chief Nelson told me that we would have to pay $200 an hour for EMS to have a unit up there." Board members and staff discussed the operational implication: having an ambulance on site often means overtime or an extra truck and that medics may be pulled away by 911 calls.
At one point the chair queried whether the $1,200 EMS charge could be paid from the TDC account; staff said advertising requests are typically the intended use of TDC funds and that the cost likely would need separate funding. The board also reviewed attendance projections and budget items in the applicant's submission during the discussion.
A motion to approve $4,000 for advertising was recorded, with the meeting transcript noting a motion and second and the chair stating, "Motion carried." The board reminded applicants that all promotional materials funded by the TDC must carry the Baker County seal and a statement that the materials are "sponsored by the Baker County Tourist Development Council."
