Magistrate records compliance for one respondent, finds others noncompliant or unresolved
Summary
At the Dec. 5 Alachua County Code Enforcement hearing the magistrate accepted compliance for Priscilla Bryant Taylor (case 24-000844) while finding other respondents noncompliant or unresolved and noting liens and continuing fines until compliance.
The Alachua County Code Enforcement Special Magistrate on Dec. 5 found respondent Priscilla Bryant Taylor in compliance with alleged violations of Alachua County Code sections 74.20(b) (serviceable vehicles) and 74.29 (prohibited hazardous lands/dangerous structures) following a December 5 inspection, and allowed the county to recover prosecution costs estimated at $700; Taylor indicated she would arrange a payment plan.
Several other cases were handled as noncompliance matters. For SM24-065 (Larry Stodghill heirs) and SM24-064 (Betty Badgett) county code officers reported inspections showing respondents had not corrected violations by the compliance date; no representative appeared for the Stodghill heirs. Betty Badgett appeared and described delays caused by personal tragedy, hurricanes and sale attempts; the magistrate noted county mailings rely on property-appraiser addresses and stated fines will continue to accrue until the property is returned to compliance and a lien will be filed.
The magistrate emphasized that a respondent who brings the property into compliance may later petition for a reduction of fines but that relief is discretionary and typically considered only after compliance is achieved. Decisions on compliance and any associated liens will be issued in writing and mailed by the clerk.
