Leon County directs traffic and pedestrian safety studies on Woodville Highway, Oak Ridge Road and Highway 27

The Leon County Commission directed county staff on Dec. 10 to conduct vehicle and pedestrian safety studies on Woodville Highway (from the county line to Capital Circle Southwest), Oak Ridge Road (Taft Road to Crawfordville Highway) and a five-mile stretch of Highway 27 east from Capital Circle.
Commissioner Kaman moved to direct staff to produce traffic and safety studies for Woodville Highway and Oak Ridge Road; Commissioner O'Keefe successfully amended and moved an additional study to cover Highway 27 east of Capital Circle for five miles, citing recent local fatalities and pedestrian-safety concerns. County staff said they would track road segments that may be under state jurisdiction and coordinate with FDOT where appropriate.
Commissioner O'Keefe called the work "absolutely a critical issue," and commissioners discussed pedestrian fatalities on local corridors and the need for infrastructure, lighting and other safety measures. The board approved the motions and amendments unanimously and asked staff to report back with findings and recommended countermeasures.
