Hillsborough County staff told commissioners Jan. 23 that a paid and earned media campaign promoting anti‑human‑trafficking messages is underway, with placements at the Tampa International Airport, stadiums, Ybor City, transit shelters and other high‑visibility sites. Staff said the county’s investment and partner outreach produced an estimated 75,000,000 impressions, and that FKQ (the campaign vendor) obtained additional earned media from local outlets.
The campaign includes rotating English and Spanish billboards and targeted messaging for East Tampa, East Hillsborough, Plant City and South Hillsborough, and paid placements near USF. Staff offered to obtain further details about any Spanish‑language placements and to confirm whether vendor materials include hashtags.
Separately, the commission received a Department of Justice human‑trafficking incident report (2022 data) distributed by staff. Highlights presented include an estimated 2,950 reported incidents nationally in 2022; roughly 81% were sex trafficking and 19% labor trafficking. The staff summary noted that a large share of incidents did not result in an arrest and that federal data are published with a time lag. Commissioners asked for additional local and gender‑specific reporting data and staff agreed to follow up.
