The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved a dark-fiber segment agreement with Choice Lite to connect redeveloped county garages in Riverside, Snowberry and New Carlisle to the county network.
Regina Emberton, CEO of Choice Lite, said the initial construction cost to connect the Riverside garage was reported in the segment agreement and that Choice Lite will contribute $11,691 toward construction. Emberton told commissioners the county’s one-time connection fee would be $10,000 and that the subscription cost is $250 per month on a 36-month term. IT Director Richard Warfield said the connection provides a direct link between the Riverside garage and county IT rather than routing over the county’s crowded ring.
Why it matters: the connection will extend county network capacity to redeveloped facilities and create a dedicated link for county services.
Next steps: procurement will finalize the segment agreement and the county will execute the subscription arrangement.
