The St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners approved multiple facility maintenance contracts and heard details about the delivery of a replacement boiler for the County City Building.
Bree Roberts, director of procurement, presented a 24-month agreement with McAllister Cat covering preventive maintenance at several county facilities, including the jail, police department, morgue and courts. Jonathan Baker, facility maintenance manager, said inspections found some equipment ‘‘not up to code’’ and that the services would bring systems into compliance and maintain them going forward. The board moved and approved the agreement.
On a connected item, procurement presented a contract and addendum with Apex Integrated Solutions for a KMC direct digital controls (DDC) upgrade to the steam boiler system in the County City Building. Staff described how DDC will better stabilize temperature, humidity and air quality compared with the current analog controls; the analog system would be retained as a backup.
Staff also reported that one of the new boilers will require crane delivery because of its size and weight. The lift is scheduled for Sunday, November 3; county staff said they coordinated with the clerk’s office and building security so absentee voting can continue while restricting access to the south side of the building during the lift window. Commissioners approved the KMC controls contract.
What happens next: procurement and facility maintenance will schedule the crane lift and complete contract execution and implementation work.
