Clerk reports early-voting surge after opening third satellite location

Amy Rolfes, Clerk of the Circuit Court, briefed the board on the county’s early-voting operations and reported a marked increase in turnout after the clerk’s office opened a third satellite location in Center Township. Rolfes said the first day that center opened produced the county’s biggest single-day totals: more than 700 ballots at Center Township, more than 700 at Mishawaka, and about 900 at the county city building. She estimated "almost 15,000" early votes had been cast so far, not including absentee mail-in ballots.
Rolfes described the satellite location as reducing travel burdens for voters from Walkerton and North Liberty who previously had to travel to Mishawaka or the county services building. She acknowledged the extra staff and logistics required to run the additional location but said voters have responded positively and staff were proud to serve county voters.
The board did not request additional action on the record; Rolfes thanked the board for approving the satellite location earlier in the process.
