Elderbridge requests $9,030 from county for senior services; contractor outlines weed-control plan

Jody Creswell, CFO of Elderbridge Agency on Aging, asked the Humboldt County supervisors to fund the agency—s local services with a $9,030 county allocation for the coming year, which she said represents $3.20 per senior in the county.
Creswell described how the agency used prior county support: she told supervisors the agency spent about $138,000 in Humboldt County last year to provide services including home-delivered and congregate meals, homemaker and health-promotion programs, legal-assistance partnerships and volunteer transportation. "We are asking for 9,030 this year, and that is based on $3.20 per senior citizen in your county," Creswell said. She added the agency is pursuing grants and has a full-time grant writer who recently secured statewide funding for vehicles and program support.
Supervisors thanked Creswell and said they would take the request into consideration during budget discussions. The board did not make a formal appropriation during the meeting.
Later, Nate Reefer of Brush and Weed Control Specialist briefed the supervisors on the county—s roadside spraying and brush control program. Reefer reviewed product choices, safety measures (flashing lights on machines and high-visibility clothing for crews) and the calendar approach (dividing the county into north/south/center zones for spraying). He said the contractor will notify the county in advance of work and that staff typically post spraying schedules and respond to complaint reports.
During the presentation a numeric estimate read aloud from the contractor—s quote appeared to be malformed in the transcript; staff and supervisors asked that the county be provided the formal written quote for review before finalizing any contract. Supervisors emphasized the need for public notification before spraying and for staff to reconcile contractor estimates with fiscal-year budgeting.
The board thanked both presenters for their work and said staff would follow up with written cost estimates and schedule notices.
