Board awards three-year Wellness Works contract to First Health of the Carolinas

Moore County officials approved a three-year contract with First Health of the Carolinas to provide medical and laboratory services for the county's Wellness Works program, county staff said on Nov. 6.
Assistant County Manager and Human Resources Director Dawn Gilbert summarized RFP 2024-06 (medical care and lab services) and said the RFP closed June 5, 2024 with seven responses; First Health was the lowest responsive bidder. Representatives Scott Phillips and Beth Morgan from First Health attended the meeting.
Chair and commissioners praised the responsive bid and noted the cost differential; the chair said one bid was $317,000 compared with a high bid near $1.2 million for comparable services. The board voted to approve the three-year contract beginning Jan. 1 and authorized execution subject to standard contracting procedures.
Next steps: staff will finalize contract documents and transition services to the new contract on Jan. 1.
