County council approves Bill 102-24 in 5-4 vote, rendering competing measure moot

The Saint Joseph County Council approved Bill 102-24 on a 5–4 vote after a procedural disagreement over which competing ordinance to consider first.

Mister Figg moved to approve Bill 102-24 and Councilwoman Drake seconded the motion. A point of order was raised pointing out that Bill 92-24 appeared earlier on the agenda; council members debated whether considering 102-24 first was in order. The chair proceeded to take the roll and members explained their positions. One member told colleagues that constituents were “really unhappy with their property tax levels” and that people in his district were calling for “no more property taxes.”
