Skye Matters, from the Department of Infrastructure Planning and Growth, told the St. Joseph County Board of Commissioners that the county received two bids for the Alexander Drive satellite garage project, which includes Project A (a salt-storage building) and Project B (site development).
"We have received two bids," Skye Matters said, naming Majority Builders of South Bend and R Yoder Construction of Napanee. For Majority Builders, he read a Project A base bid of $1,178,450 and an alternate A1 (hot-dip galvanized steel with fabric enclosure) of $60,000. He reported a Project B base-bid figure that he read as $2,079,390 and also read a combined bid figure that appears to be a transcription or typographical error in the record.
For R Yoder Construction, Matters read a Project A base bid of $1,051,214 and alternate A1 of $55,500, and a Project B site-development base bid of $1,858,081; he read combined pricing for completing the projects together and separately.
Matters asked the commissioners to "receive these bids and turn them over to engineering for review and potential award." The presiding officer moved to consider the request and the motion was seconded.
Next steps: the board received the bids on the record and directed staff to place the bids with county engineering for review of responsiveness and potential award. The transcript contains one large combined-price number that is inconsistent with surrounding figures; staff and engineers will need to confirm the correct combined totals when they evaluate the bids.
