The Moore County Planning Board voted to recommend that the Board of Commissioners adopt a Unified Development Ordinance text amendment reclassifying "personal workshop/storage buildings" from an accessory use to a principal permitted use in most residential zoning districts.
Staff described the change as responding to the Board of Commissioners' recommendation and said it would remove the term "storage" from the definition and eliminate a prior 2-acre lot minimum. Ruth said the change would make personal workshops "a principal use permitted in all of the residential zoning districts, except for gated communities," and that it was intended to make the ordinance easier to understand while following the commissioners' direction.
There were no public speakers during the hearing for this item. A board member moved to adopt the attached planning board land use plan consistency statement as consistent under North Carolina General Statute 160D-604 and to authorize the vice chair to execute the final document. The board then voted to recommend approval of the proposed amendments to Chapters 6 and 8 (section 8.84) to the Board of Commissioners; motions carried by voice vote.
The recommendation will be considered by the Board of Commissioners; the meeting record does not show the commissioners' final action.
