Laredo ISD canvasses Nov. 5 trustee elections, issues certificates and swears in Monica Garcia

Gutierrez said those results make Alfredo Perez the winner for District 4. Board secretary Veronica V. Ordugno read a formal canvass statement certifying that the figures on the tally sheets correspond with the returns and signed the certification 'this 18th day of November 2024.' The board moved to accept and approve the election returns by voice vote.
Item 3 covered issuing certificates of election. The board approved presenting certificates to the newly elected trustees, and the board approved the required statement of elected officer signed by the new trustees. For District 7, which was unopposed, Jorge Gutierrez invited Monica Garcia to receive her certificate and to participate in a brief swearing-in ceremony.
The swearing-in ceremony that followed included music from the Sigaroa High School mariachi and remarks by local officials and family members. Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina administered the oath of office; Monica Rangel Garcia repeated the oath and affirmed the statement of officer, which includes language stating she had not paid or promised money or a thing of value to influence the election at which she was elected. In her remarks, Garcia thanked family members, her children Marquis, Valerie and Stevie, LISD colleagues, principals from District 7 and members of the community, and pledged continued dedication to students in the district.
