After a short video and the ceremonial oath, trustees and district leaders presented Garza with a token of appreciation and offered remarks about his impact. "You have touched so many lives, mister Garza," said the board president in thanking him for long meetings and dedication. Garza reflected on his service: "I was only gonna do 8 years, and I went to 12 ... I'm leaving in good terms, very proud of everything that we accomplished over the last 12 years," he said.
Multiple trustees and staff echoed gratitude and personal anecdotes: trustees described Garza as a mentor and community advocate who volunteered at events, supported coaches and students, and helped the district navigate difficult periods. Superintendent Dr. Rios thanked Garza for having faith in district leadership and noted a personal coin Garza had given during a difficult time that she still carries.
Speakers encouraged the community to wish Garza well and noted the board will swear in his successor in the coming weeks. The meeting concluded with trustees' holiday well-wishes and adjournment.
