Laredo ISD committee nominates Gregorio Lopez for Webb County Appraisal District ballot

The Laredo Independent School District special committee voted Oct. 23 to adopt a resolution nominating Gregorio Lopez as the district’s candidate for the Webb County Appraisal District board of directors.
Miss Ayala briefed the board on the nomination process required by the Texas Property Tax Code: the district must submit nominees to the chief appraiser, who prepares an alphabetical ballot and distributes it to governing units; each taxing unit then selects candidates and returns a resolution to the chief appraiser by Dec. 15, and the chief appraiser counts votes and declares winners by Dec. 31. In the event of a tie, Miss Ayala said the chief appraiser resolves it by chance.
Miss Ayala told trustees the district currently controls 314 votes and needs 850 to assure a seat — a gap of 536 votes — and that she had contacted other local taxing units (Webb County, the city and Laredo College) to pursue additional support. The board president nominated Gregorio Lopez and the board approved the resolution by voice vote to submit the nominee to the chief appraiser before the filing deadline.
The nomination is contingent on securing the additional votes from other taxing entities during the November–December process; the committee did not record a roll‑call tally in the transcript.
