Chief appraiser materials were presented and the board approved submission of the certified appraisal roll for tax year 2024. Trustees were shown figures including total appraised values of about $5.8 billion, an assessed value of roughly $5.7 billion and a taxable value of about $3.1 billion. The board then approved the director of tax collections’ certification of an anticipated 100% collection rate for fiscal year 2024–25.
The board adopted a proposed tax rate for 2024 of $0.6669 per $100 for maintenance and operations and $0.5443 per $100 for debt service, for a combined rate of $1.2112 per $100 valuation. A staff presenter noted the proposed rate will raise less maintenance and operations revenue than last year because appraised values increased.
Trustees also approved curriculum items adding two college, career and military readiness courses (basic fluid power and a school‑to‑college course) and approved recommended professional hires following executive session: Carla Elizondo for assistant principal at Ryan Elementary and Roger Garcia for assistant superintendent for curriculum, instruction and assessment (with notation that the appointee’s previous position will be closed). The board voted on consent agenda items and miscellaneous discretionary‑fund amendments (including language clarifying fund use for girls’ and boys’ teams).
What happens next: The adopted tax rate and certified roll advance the district’s budgeting and tax collection process; administration will implement the hires and present budget‑workshop options for the staffing decisions previously discussed.
